Volunteer Skills & Leadership Development Program

Robert Durrant from The VisitReady Company is proud to be the facilitator of the Volunteer Skills & Leadership Development Program, designed to strengthen the capability, confidence, and sustainability of volunteer-run organisations across regional Gippsland communities.

Provided by the Port Albert Progress Association (PAPA) and Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR), this program focuses on empowering volunteers with essential and practical skills with a goal of feeling capable of contributing to volunteer roles.

Across many regional towns, volunteer organisations are the backbone of community life. However, they are often challenged by limited resources, ageing committees, and increasing governance, marketing, and engagement demands. This program directly responds to those challenges by building practical, real-world capability where it matters most.

Through a structured and supportive development approach, participants gain hands-on skills in governance, committee leadership, fundraising, grant writing, community engagement, marketing, and event delivery. More importantly, they develop the confidence and leadership mindset needed to sustain and grow volunteer organisations into the future.

The program is designed not just to train individuals, but to strengthen entire volunteer ecosystems - helping groups attract new volunteers, improve operational effectiveness, and build long-term succession pathways.
